Tyler's Birthday - Dare I Wax Romantic?

Since marrying Tyler I have followed his lead on internet expressions of love. His expressions to and about me on facebook and our blog have never been over the top. I like that, generally. So I, too have reserved the schmoopy romance for those rare moments when the kids are in bed and we are done loading the dishwasher and have watched 20 minutes of TV to feel sane again.

But I'm feeling kind of crazy on this, my husband's 38th birthday. Instead of doing a list of unknown facts about him I will just tell you how much I love him and how he kind of saved me. (Unacceptable! Men don't SAVE women! Women don't NEED men! Blah blah blibbity blah! Shut up).

I was not comfortable in the dating world. I still don't know why, but I had the hardest time getting it when a guy was interested in me. No super dramatic reason, I just didn't get guys. At all. I could laugh and crack jokes and banter all day long, but when it came down to looking someone in the eye and admitting that I cared about them in any way, I just couldn't do it.

So Tyler came along (after the first time he came along, several years before, but that's another story) at a time I was starting law school and was deciding that, instead of wife and mother Debra, I would just be cool, lawyer Aunt Debra. And he was all eyes looking into my soul and quiet statements like "when can I see you again" and not needing his hand held and just exactly the kind of person I needed. Falling in love with him was the most fun I had ever had.

In addition to his birthday, our anniversary is also in July. This year it will be 7 years. It has not been perfect or easy, but it has predominantly been really, really lovely.

I would like to thank the birthday boy for being thoughtful and kind, for taking responsibility, for working hard, and for trying hard. This kind of thing has been said a billion times by married people, but I am truly blessed to have him as my partner.

Happy Birthday, my love! Next year it will be back to the clever lists of little known facts!

  1. I agree with everything you said and did not say about the Tyler. He is a great son-in-law and I love him for the help he gives his wife. I wish you the best on your wedding marker of seven years. Good for both of you and your sweet trio of offspring. Love 'the mother-in-law'

  2. I remember hearing about you going to law school and thinking how incredibly brave you were to dive into that. And how fun to meet your hubby at the same time. He sounds like a pretty great guy.
