Movie Scenes That Make Me Happy

In no particular order, here are three of my all-time favorite movie scenes. I'll begin with an obvious one, then throw in a bait and switch one, then one that might have you like "huh?"

Ferris Bueller (1986), wherein Ferris lip syncs "Twist and Shout" and the entire city of Chicago dances in the street.

Honestly, every time I see this scene I feel like crying. I want to be on that street, just dancing and singing my heart out with Ferris, who is real to me.

The Fugutive (1993), wherein Richard Kimball calls Samuel Gerard, the man who is trying to put him back in prison.

You would think it would be the "farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse" speech at the beginning, but no. Because Samuel Gerard is so smart, but now Richard Kimball is like "I'm totally just as smart as you and I'm going to point you to the real bad guy." The music is all intense and Tommy Lee Jones is all intense and I love it. Here's the dialogue from my good friend IMDB.

Gerard's secretary: Sam, there's a guy on the phone claiming to be Richard Kimble.
[cast cackling in background that "another" Kimble is on the phone]
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: This is Gerard.
Dr. Richard Kimble: Do you remember what I told you in the tunnel?
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: [gesturing to his men to start tracing the call] Um yeah... It was noisy... I think you said something like you didn't kill your wife.
Dr. Richard Kimble: Remember what you told me?
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: I remember you pointing my gun at me.
[Gerard's team gestures him not to antagonize Kimble and make the conversation stretch]
Dr. Richard Kimble: You said, "I don't care."
Tracing Technician: [whispering] He's on the south side.
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: [to his team] Yeah...
[then noticing Kimbles remake]
Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard: Yeah... that's right Richard... I don't care. I'm not trying to solve a puzzle here...
Dr. Richard Kimble: Well, I am trying to solve a puzzle.
Cosmo Renfro: Five seconds to location.
Dr. Richard Kimble: And I just found a big piece!
[slams down phone on desk so trace can continue]

This is not the scene, but it is Harrison Ford on the phone in The Fugitive.
I mean, he slams the phone on the desk! So the trace can continue! Samuel Gerard has met his match!

Footloose (1984), wherein the Reverend Moore lends his support to the seniors for their dance.

Do not even say the name of the 2011 Footloose. Footloose 1984 didn't even get great reviews when it first came out. But it is a great movie, and do you know how I know? Staying power. They still play it on USA and TBS and TNT and all over the place.

And the scene where the Reverend is all world-weary and a little defeated but has decided to do the right thing by lending his support to the high-school senior dance is awesome. In part because of Kenny Loggins and that lone guitar coming in while Ren looks back at Ariel all happy and teenager. And then of course the criss crossing motorcycles to the shouts of "I'm Free!" while Kenny Loggins is singing Heaven Help the Man who fiiightss his feeeeaaaar..."

"Love's the oonnnnleh thing that Keeps Me Heeeeere!"

Now I've got my movie juices flowing. I might have to do another one of these posts - maybe for movies later than 1993.
