Husband of Mine

Tyler's been out on the job market for a little while and it feels like the economy is drop kicking us. This guy works so hard and has been so productive. But very little response from schools.

And he's starting to feel rejected. Is it him? Is he too intimidating? Underqualified? Overqualified? Maybe his curriculum vitae paper smells funny?

As for me, I'm starting to feel really defensive. Like, these people have no idea that the person they are refusing to even interview (despite his stellar CV, stratospheric teaching evaluations, and generous, intelligent and hard-working character) would be an incredible find.

These schools think they're hiring first round draft picks but many are going to end up with Ryan Leafs of academia. Meanwhile, someone will draft Tyler in the sixth round and he will go Tom Brady on their ass.

I mean, seriously.

  1. Haven't blogged in a while. Obviously, because I didn't know you were preggers. Congrats! Hope you feel better though. I think in this economy it sucks that people don't hire people that ARE and are over-qualified rather than those under-qualified 20 yr olds. Hate to say it but he'd have better luck getting a job delivering pizza than what he wants to do. This is America people. What happened to living the dream?! I hope things work out soon. And I know what you mean with the patience and babies. I don't know if I will be able to keep up with her. I get bored too. If you could only move to Gainesville things would be better :) :) :)

  3. I KNOW! I feel the EXACT same way about Jeff and getting in to dental school! Especially when people get in who are so far below Jeff stats. AHH! I get so ticked! What can ya do? He's white. We're screwed.
